Last night’s Glee tribute left fans with empty tissue boxes. To say that it was a tear-jerking episode is an understatement. This heart-felt homage episode centered around the death of Finn Hudson, a character on Glee played by Cory Monteith, who passed away this past summer due to an accidental drug and alcohol overdose.
The focus of the episode was not on the reason behind Finn’s death nor was it about the funeral, instead, it revolved around the weeks after his death. It meditated on what death means to those left behind. The characters honored Finn by gathering in song. Some of the numbers include: “Rain and Fire”, “525,600 miles”, “If I Die Young”, and “Make You Feel My Love”. Santana couldn’t hold back her tears while singing “If I Die Young”. As for when Rachel was singing “Make You Feel My Love”, the very first song she sang with Finn, the whole choir broke down.
When asked about Monteith’s death, Lea Michele, who plays Rachel on Glee and who has been romantic with Cory, stated that “she has lost two people: Cory and Finn.” She describes the October 3 tribute episode to Monteith as “perfect”.
