A Brief View from Social Media Week NYC 2013

In case you haven't caught on yet,  we're mingling with some of the best in the business at Social Media Week NYC 2013.

Social Media Week is a worldwide event exploring the social, cultural and economic impact of social media. The mission is to help people and organizations connect through collaboration, learning and the sharing of ideas and information.

Are you thinking, "So what? Why do they keep blogging about it?" Well, Social Media Week in September proved to be a great success, with participation from more than 30,000 attendees, across 980 individually hosted events and with 2,000 speakers driving the conversation in 13 cities.

So you see, it's kind of a big deal. We're hanging out with BuzzFeed, Mashable, EngageSciences, tumblr. and Getty Images, just to give you an idea of how it's playing out here.

We've been busy mingling, taking note and updating our blog so you don't get bored in our absence, but we've managed to snap a few pics from the events. Scroll through the gallery below!

The Fakest Reality Show

So I was browsing around today, seeing what is good and what is not on TV, and came across this show called "Real Husbands of Hollywood." I couldn't help taking five minutes to check it out.

I was honestly ready to see something absurd, that would make me feel that tingling feeling in my stomach when someone is embarrassing themselves to an extreme. Such as what I feel whenever Taylor Armstrong (RHOBH) gets so drunk, that her so-natural-lips get totally in the way and nobody understands a word she says.

The show started January 15th and has Kevin Hart, Nick Cannon and J.B. Smoove on the cast, along with Robin Thicke, Duane Martin and Borie Kodjoe. This was the preview:

As soon as I started watching, it was announced as "the fakest reality show on TV" - and I thought to myself: FINALLY a reality show admitted to be scripted!

They do stuff that nobody does in real life, have those pointless fights that start out of nowhere...if they had boobs, and threw a few "OMG, you are such a bitch" in there, you could call it Housewives of Hollywood.

So, have you guys watched any episodes yet? If so, what did you think?

Harlem Residents React To The Harlem Shake #SMWNYC

It's Day Two of Social Media Week NYC! You're probably wondering what that has to do with the latest YouTube sensation, "The Harlem Shake."

We were sitting in the panel on News From Noise: Discovering and Verifying the Best Content Across Social Networks, and we were asked if any of us knew the origin of the Harlem Shake. Turns out it's a move from over 10 years ago and is NOTHING like what we're seeing now.

We were told there is a clip of people in Harlem reacting to the new Harlem Shake videos and their reactions, which are pretty priceless. Check it out here:

The lesson here being you should do a little homework before posting things to your social media accounts to make sure your content is as authentic as possible.

You have to admit, the non-authentic results can be pretty hysterical, too.

Someone Get Rihanna a Weed Birthday Cake!

The Barbados Beauty known as Rihanna turns 25 today. Happy Birthday RiRi! Got any big plans for today?

Oh. You're going to put on bikinis and smoke some blunts? Okay, no one saw that coming.

Rihanna is celebrating her birthday in Hawaii, which is pretty sweet all on it's own. However, we're hearing rumors that volatile boyfriend Chris Brown is in Hawaii as well, and is going to propose to Rihanna for her birthday!

Sources for Hollywood Life say "The report claims that it’s all going to happen tonight at the dinner and Chris’ mom is there too! Get this, the engagement ring is 10 carats, and it cost him around $3.5 million — such a lucky girl!"

For us mere mortals, here is an idea of what a 10 carat diamond ring looks like:

Thanks Catherine and Douglas!

Thanks Catherine and Douglas!

Is Chris Brown really going to propose to RiRi for her birthday? Or is this just a bunch of smoke?
