Communication advances every year thanks to smartphones and other digital messaging platforms. Digital advertisers are continually brainstorming to target audiences amidst their virtual conversations. Digital stickers are one of the recent SMS trends being repurposed and utilized by global companies.
Similar to emojis, digital stickers are still or animated graphics designed to be shared via virtual photos or text messages, appealing to people’s thirst for creative expression. Facebook and its mobile app Messenger were some of the first social media platforms offering access to free and pay-to-use stickers to monetize and maintain their own visitor engagement status. Now, Twitter and Disney are turning stickers into brand advertising opportunities.
Promoted #Stickers is Twitter Inc.’s newest ad promotion program. The business-focused extension of its #Stickers application, launched in June, lets companies create four or eight stickers to share with all Twitter users through the #Stickers programmatic library.
Ilya Brown, Head of Product, Brand & Video Ads at Twitter Inc., describes these stickers as “a visual hashtag, meaning that photos with your brand’s sticker will be connected and discoverable to anyone who taps your brand’s sticker.”
Companies partnering with Promoted #Stickers include Pepsi, whose investment of 50 PespiMoji stickers across 10 markets makes this venture their biggest partnership ever with Twitter Inc. Warner Bros. is also onboard as the program’s first Hollywood studio partner; their stickers promote their film Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them Companies scheduled for release on November 18th.
The Walt Disney Company also turns to digital stickers for brand recognition. As part of Apple’s new launch of the iMessage App store, Disney now sells eight sticker packs themed after their iconic characters found in films like Star Wars, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Inside Out. These packs priced at $1.99 offer fans access to a whole new world of visual engagement and help Disney increase their revenue and digitally advertise their brand.
